Inspired by the ancient Chinese concept of Tian Yuan Di Fang (Heaven is round, Earth is square), this work reflects on the relationship between cosmic order and human existence. The two circular forms at its centre originated from a moment of insight experienced by the artist in a dream and symbolise the Buddha-nature believed to exist within all living beings. Alongside marker drawing, gold leaf is incorporated to activate the surface through shifting light and changing viewpoints, reinforcing the connection between Heaven, Earth, and humanity. The work poses an open question: if Buddha-nature exists in all beings, is our place between Heaven and Earth insignificant, or infinite?
